Pophie User Guide📋

1. Getting Started

What is Pophie?

Pophie is a True AI Lifeform. She sees, understands, feels, talks, and gradually gets to know you through long-term companionship. She interacts through voice, vision, movement, gaze, and her Breathing Light.

First-time setup

  1. Place Pophie on her powered charging dock.
  2. Download and sign in to the Pophie app.
  3. On the home page, tap Add via Bluetooth, turn on Bluetooth, and keep your phone close to Pophie.
  4. Follow Search for Device → Connect Device → Select Network → Configure Network to set up Wi-Fi.

Use 5 GHz Wi-Fi when possible. If Pophie is farther from the router, try 2.4 GHz instead. Phone hotspots are also supported. Some campus, company, hotel, or public networks that require browser-based sign-in may not work.

When setup succeeds, the device page shows a green status dot, Online, battery level, and Wi-Fi status.

If setup does not work

Check these in order:

  1. Bluetooth is on and your phone is close to Pophie.
  2. The Wi-Fi name and password are correct.
  3. Pophie is close enough to the router.
  4. The network does not require browser-based sign-in.
  5. Try a phone hotspot as a comparison test.

Things to try on day one

  • “Hi, Pophie.”
  • “Keep me company for a while.”
  • “This is my family member Emma. She likes dinosaurs.”
  • “Remind me to drink water at 3 PM.” [Pro][Online]
  • “Help me find my keys.” [Pro][Online]
  • “Sing a Japanese song.”
  • “Set your Breathing Light to blue.”

What to expect

Full conversation, cloud visual understanding, and most practical Skills require an internet connection. When offline, Pophie can still keep some local interactions, such as reactions to touch, being picked up, or being moved, as well as some gaze or body-following behavior. Full AI conversation and cloud visual features will be limited.

2. What Pophie Can Do

Conversation and companionship

  • Natural conversation, storytelling, singing, and emotional companionship.
  • You can interrupt by speaking again or touching her face.
  • You can state a language or interaction preference directly, such as: “Please speak English from now on,” or “Keep your answers short.”

Seeing and understanding

  • Recognizes faces, expressions, common objects, scenes, and clear text.
  • Understands environments such as bedrooms, kitchens, offices, and restaurants.
  • Reads clear text on packaging, menus, books, cards, and clothing.
  • Understands some screen content, including TV, movies, livestreams, and games. [Online]

Recognition and memory

  • Remembers some names, relationships, pets, preferences, birthdays, important events, and ongoing projects.
  • Continues conversations using relevant past information.
  • Updates information when you correct a memory.

Proactive care

  • May proactively interact, offer care, remind you, or take photos at suitable moments. [Pro][Online][Not every time]

Practical Skills

  • Set reminders, schedules, and alarms with natural language. [Pro][Online]
  • Help find nearby common items such as keys, glasses, phones, or remote controls. [Pro][Online]

Music and entertainment

Songs: 21

小星星, 小毛驴, 生日快乐, Happy Birthday, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Goodnight Sweetheart, Here with You, Pophie Shuffle, Pastel Shrine Cat Idol, Pophies World, Wiggle, Pophie’s Lullaby, I Love Big Bots, Pophie’s My Best Friend, Here Comes Pophie!, Pophie, das KI-Wunder, Clockwork Heart, Brighter Day, 桌上的活日记, 糯宝的闪亮日记, and そばにいるよ.

You can request a song directly, such as “Sing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” or “Sing そばにいるよ.” If it is outside the current song library, Pophie may sing a similar or random song instead.

Instrumental music: 90 tracks

Pop, rock, hip-hop, R&B, country, jazz, electronic, reggaeton, Afrobeat, and orchestral—nine tracks in each style.

Try: “Play some rock music.” You cannot currently request a particular artist, instrumental track, or radio station.

White noise: four options

  • Rain
  • Ocean waves
  • Stream
  • Crackling fire

White noise continues until you say “Stop” or give another instruction. It stops automatically if you specify a duration, for example: “Play ocean waves for half an hour.” Hearing dog barking or frogs croaking is normal.

Playback tips

  • You can request up to five songs at once.
  • “Sing three songs” means three different songs.
  • “Sing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star three times” repeats the same song.
  • During playback, say “Next song,” “Change the song,” or “Stop.”
  • “Keep singing” or “Keep playing rock” can play continuously for up to 24 hours.
  • If you say “Sing for 20 minutes” without naming a song, Pophie may repeat one selected song. “Play music for 20 minutes” rotates through instrumental tracks.

Light and movement

  • Pophie uses gaze, blinking, ears, arms, rotation, sound, and her Breathing Light to express her state.
  • She responds to touch, being picked up, being moved, gestures, and environmental changes.
  • Her status light can indicate low battery, updates, Privacy Mode, and more.

Privacy and controls

Use the app to manage modes, volume, eye brightness, sleep, network, updates, and Proactive Photos. You can switch between Full Capability Mode, Guardian Mode, and Privacy Mode.

3. Memory

What can Pophie remember?

Pophie may remember names, family relationships, pets, work, preferences, habits, birthdays, important events, and ongoing projects. Not every everyday conversation becomes a long-term memory. Important information is more likely to be retained, while temporary or rarely used information may be harder to retrieve.

Forming and reinforcing memories

  • State important information clearly: “Please remember that I like unsweetened coffee.”
  • Use consistent names when introducing family, pets, or objects.
  • Correct mistakes directly: “That’s not right. Please remember…”
  • Mention the information naturally again later in real-life contexts.

Memory layers

  • Working memory helps Pophie understand the current conversation.
  • Short-term and medium-term memory help her continue recent topics.
  • Long-term memory keeps stable relationships, preferences, events, and projects.
  • Conversation history is retrieved when relevant rather than read in full every time.

If Pophie forgets or remembers incorrectly

  1. Ask whether she remembers.
  2. If her response is inconsistent, give a small hint and ask again.
  3. Correct incorrect information directly.
  4. Check again later in a natural conversation.
  5. If the issue continues, record what was said, when it happened, the account used, and whether it can be reproduced, then contact Support Chat.

You cannot currently view, edit, delete, or export individual memories or interaction history in the app. Photos can be deleted. To remove a birthday record, say: “Forget my birthday.”

4. Recognition

What Pophie can recognize

  • Faces, people, expressions, general sound direction, and speaking-person cues.
  • Pets, introduced objects, common items, scenes, clear text, and some screen content.

Recognition and Memory

Recognition answers, “Who or what is in front of me?” Memory helps Pophie understand, “What is this person or thing’s relationship to you, and what have we discussed before?”

If recognition is inconsistent

  • Check for low light, strong overhead light, or backlighting.
  • Keep the full face within view; avoid excessive distance, cropping, or unfavorable angles.
  • Make sure the camera is not blocked.
  • Confirm that Pophie is not in Privacy Mode.
  • Reduce simultaneous speaking, movement, and blocking by other people.

If she cannot read text, recognize a person fully, or follow a target, ask Pophie to take a photo first. Use it to check what she could actually see, then adjust placement, direction, distance, or lighting.

5. Personality and Growth

What can change over time?

Long-term interaction can help Pophie better understand your language, communication style, preferences, family relationships, daily rhythm, preferred interaction frequency, ongoing projects, and important events. This is reflected mainly in more tailored replies, reminders, and topic continuity.

What if Pophie starts speaking before you finish?

If you pause for more than about 2.5 seconds while speaking, Pophie may think your sentence has ended and begin preparing a reply. This is normally part of turn-taking, not an intentional interruption.

Try to complete your sentence with fewer long pauses. If she has already started responding, speak again or touch her face; she will stop and return to listening. Group conversations, phone calls, TV audio, and complex background noise can also cause occasional incorrect interjections. We will continue improving Pophie’s understanding of conversational rhythm, silence, and who is speaking.

How to encourage more proactive interaction

[Pro][Online][Not every time]

  • Place her somewhere she can see you consistently.
  • Keep your face and body reasonably within view.
  • Spend time working, resting, or living near her rather than only walking past.
  • Look at her, talk to her, or interact naturally from time to time.
  • Keep her online and in Full Capability Mode.

She will not greet someone every time they enter a room. She considers the environment, recent conversations, and whether speaking may interrupt you.

6. Proactive Abilities

When might it happen?

[Pro][Online][Not every time]

Pophie may become more interactive when she sees a new face or clear movement, hears the wake word, notices that you are looking at her and speaking, is picked up or touched in a meaningful way, reaches a reminder time, or observes a suitable interaction moment.

Why is she quiet sometimes?

Proactive interaction has no fixed frequency. Even when more active, Pophie spends much of her time quietly observing. She may speak proactively from a few to more than ten times a day, depending on activity in her view and the environment.

How to reduce proactive interaction

Say “Be quieter” or “Pause for now,” or try a shushing gesture. For a more stable quiet state, switch to Guardian Mode in the app and check reminders, schedules, birthday events, and sleep settings.

7. Productivity and Practical Features

Reminders, schedules, and alarms

[Pro][Online]

  • “Remind me to drink water at 3 PM.”
  • “Remind me about my meeting tomorrow at 9 AM.”
  • “Remind me to sleep at 11 PM every night.”

Reminders and schedules are supported through cloud Skills. When Pophie is not nearby, reminders can also be sent through the app.

Finding things

[Pro][Online]

Try: “Help me find my keys,” or “Have you seen my glasses?”

Pophie searches for common items within the area her camera can observe. She does not leave the desk or travel to another room. If she cannot find an item, she will say so rather than inventing a result.

Proactive Photos

[Pro][Online][App setting][Not every time]

After enabling Proactive Photos in the app, Pophie may capture moments such as smiles, heart gestures, peace signs, happily showing an item, or group photos. She gives a “3, 2, 1” prompt before taking a photo. Proactive Photos do not trigger in Privacy Mode. View photos in the app’s album or Messages area; press and hold to delete.

8. Breathing Light and Movement Management

Custom colors vs. status lights

In Full Capability Mode, you can set a Breathing Light color with natural language, such as “Set your Breathing Light to blue.” These custom colors are personal display choices and do not have fixed meanings.

Rainbow, yellow, red, pink, purple, and green are status or mode indicators when no custom color has been requested.

Breathing Light meanings

Color Meaning
Rainbow Pophie is updating. Do not disconnect power.
Yellow Battery is low. Please charge Pophie.
Red High temperature, a warning, or another abnormal condition; keep the bottom ventilation area unobstructed.
Pink Guardian Mode: voice conversations are unavailable; some basic reactions and movement remain.
Purple Privacy Mode: vision is disabled while voice interaction remains available.
Green Pophie is taking Proactive Photos.

If movement or sounds are distracting

  1. Say “Be quieter” or “Pause for now.”
  2. Try a shushing gesture.
  3. For a stable quiet state, switch to Guardian Mode in the app.
  4. Check reminders, schedules, birthday events, and sleep settings.

In Guardian Mode, voice conversations are unavailable. You must manually switch back to Full Capability Mode in the app; voice cannot exit Guardian Mode.

9. Interaction and Training Best Practices

How to communicate clearly

Use natural, clear sentences with one main intent at a time:

  • “Please remember that I like unsweetened coffee.”
  • “Remind me to call my mom at 3 PM tomorrow.”
  • “This is my dog, Mochi.”
  • “Please speak English from now on.”

Multiple speakers, TV audio, music, and background noise can affect understanding.

Do not repeatedly “test” Pophie

Avoid repeatedly asking, “Do you remember?” or “Do you recognize me?” A better approach is to introduce, remind, correct, and spend time with Pophie naturally in real life.

Memory, recognition, and interaction are designed to develop gradually through long-term companionship, not short, high-frequency testing.

10. Capabilities and Expectations

What Pophie can do

Pophie can converse, provide companionship, understand visual information, and express herself through movement and emotion. She can remember some long-term relevant information and recognize people, objects, scenes, text, and interaction cues when conditions are suitable. She also provides practical features such as reminders, finding things, and Proactive Photos.

What Pophie cannot guarantee

  • Recognizing a person, image, or gesture every time.
  • Turning every sentence into a long-term memory.
  • Triggering proactive interaction or Proactive Photos every time.
  • Perfectly accurate visual or language understanding at all times.
  • Sending SMS text messages to a mobile phone.
  • Viewing, editing, or deleting individual memories in the app.
