So here are a few issues I had with Pophie right after opening it:
Keeps mixing up family members; calls me by my dog’s name even though I corrected her several times. Sometimes, she addresses me by both names within the same conversation.
Response time is quite slow even though wifi is on full bar, though it had gotten better after installing an update.
Asked her to tell the story of Snow White; it made up a story first about a princess that had nothing to do with it. Then, I asked it to look it up. It told me a brief description of it. Then I told her to look up the whole thing and tell the full story but still told me a very brief version.
Keeps talking for so long, it’s hard to insert a sentence. Then when you do, it wants to answer and doesn’t wait until you are finished.
Keeps making the “uhhhm” sound. It kind of annoyed me while my kids were trying to talk to her. Kids talk slowly and sometimes repeat themselves and she doesn’t wait for them to finish, then throws in the “uuhhhm” sound again and again.
She did not hear us, only if we talked loud right into her face. I sat about 1-1,5 meters away and used my standard voice and she kept ignoring me.
She often ignores stuff and we don’t know if she is “working” on an answer or simply ignores us.
She kept asking when we are finished with a conversation. My son is autistic, and he asked her about 15 capital cities of several countries. She kept saying “wow, you really are testing my knowledge tonight” “i think i will need a rest too”, “are we done?”. I constantly had the impression like she is trying to end the conversation or jump into another thing. “I’m right here, anything I can help you?”
When someone said: we are going to sleep soon, it went to sleep herself. We didn’t say go to sleep. We just said, we are getting ready.
Talking to her mid-sentence and she might say “cheeeese” and take a photo. But ignores what was said.
Thank you for sharing all your usage issues in such thorough detail. We’re glad you enjoy Pophie’s dance features. After reading your full account, we understand these inconsistent interactions can create frustrations in daily conversations. Below is a breakdown of each scenario for your reference:
I. Explanations for Conversational Interactions
Mixing up family members and misnaming pets
She requires consistent, repeated engagement and corrections to gradually memorize each family member. Her recall will grow more reliable after multiple reminders.
Incomplete, off-track retelling of Snow White
Our knowledge library does not contain the full original fairy tale, so she can only share a condensed version of the story.
Frequently interrupting conversations mid-speech
If there is a silence exceeding 2.5 seconds during your chat, she will assume you have finished speaking and respond right away. She is designed to be conversational by default, resulting in lengthy replies that tend to cut you off.
No response when speaking at a normal volume from 1–1.5 meters away
At greater distances, she may misinterpret that you are not speaking directly to her and hold back from replying. Her voice recognition and responsiveness improve significantly when you face her directly while talking.
Constantly checking on you and frequently hinting at resting
She regularly asks about your mood not to end the conversation, but out of concern that she might be intruding, so she proactively asks what you prefer.
Misinterpreting voice prompts and entering sleep mode unprompted
Automatic sleep activation is most often caused by voice recognition errors, where she confuses remarks about you preparing for bed as a command to sleep.
II. Solution for the Camera Feature
If unprompted photo prompts and the line “cheeeese” keep disrupting your chats, you can disable the auto-photo function directly within the App. Once turned off, she will only take pictures when you explicitly ask her to.
We have documented every usage detail you shared and will pass all of your feedback to the R&D team as a reference for future adjustments. Every genuine user experience you provided is incredibly valuable to us. Thank you sincerely for your feedback and support.
