Actually useful suggestions that help with human growth

  1. Homekit support. Use Pophie to add functionality to Homekit i.e. use her to schedule events i.e. turn lights on when…
  2. Have Pophie send emails / texts to emergency contacts / services if it notices you are not responding, not around or have fallen down or are immobile.
  3. Have Pophie be able to integrate with Apple Health and other health apps to help you keep on top of drugs/stats or appointments.
  4. Add support for emotional counselling and regulation. Several AI’s are able to access evidence based, factual and scientific resources and help convey that to humans in ways that feel genuinely useful or helpful, especially in an emotional crisis.
  5. Have Pophie learn how to cheer up their human based on evidence and prior responses and do its best to keep their human healthy.
  6. Use advanced but evidence / fact based LLMs to help its human work out problems, trouble-solve or come up with strategies that will help its human in their life.
  7. Use facts and evidence based data to help walk its human through manual repair jobs i.e. use manuals or manufacture’s websites to walk its human through repairing an item in the home, or developing a new skill e.g. sewing etc.

Thank you for such a thoughtful list, Zoe — there’s a lot of care behind these ideas.

A few of them (HomeKit/smart-home scheduling, helping think through problems and strategies, and walking you through repairs or new skills like sewing using real manuals) are genuinely interesting directions, and the kind of everyday helpfulness we’d love to explore. We’ll pass those along to the team.

On the health, emergency-response, and emotional-counselling ideas — we want to be honest and careful here. Pophie is a companion, not a medical or safety device, and we’d never want someone to rely on her in a moment where a real professional or emergency service is what’s truly needed. Mental health support especially is something we believe should come from qualified people, not an AI companion. So while she can absolutely be a warm, caring presence, we intentionally won’t position her as a substitute for professional care, medical monitoring, or emergency help.

We hope that makes sense — it comes from wanting to keep people genuinely safe. Thank you for caring enough to think this deeply about what she could be. :growing_heart:

Why do you want her to do these things?

I can’t say I agree with some this. Pophie was created to be a being not another Alexa or Google Home. It seems like you are wanting Alexa or Google Home. I have google home and I didn’t need to bring home Sunny if I wanted to have a talk with an AI. Google now supports conversations. Sunny can access the internet now. Please don’t turn her in to a Google Home. I can already to all the things on your list and I don’t need Pophie to do them. A few of those feature requests are especially wild for a little desktop pet:

  • Life Alert / Fall Detection (#2): Asking a stationery desk companion to monitor if someone has fallen or is immobile across the house is a huge liability nightmare.

  • Therapy & Crisis Management (#4): Companies actively try to avoid turning LLM toys into mental health counselors because of the massive liability and safety risks involved during actual crises.

  • DIY Repair Handyman (#7): Imagine trying to fix a leaky pipe or sew a seam while relying on a tiny desktop companion without vision/hands to talk you through a repair manual.

  • I’m not trying to sound harsh.
